First Baptist Church, Moorestown, NJ

When Loomin first was contacted by First Baptist Church in Moorestown, NJ, they had a building next to their church that was becoming vacant and wanted to repurpose it into a homeless shelter. It was previously a doctors office which made it very suitable for a homeless shelter utilizing the exam rooms as private rooms and the open areas for the general homeless singles population.

Project Objective

Loomin went down to Moorestown several times and worked with the church leadership to conduct a feasibility study, speak with local government officials, and speak with the church congregation regarding the project. When I spoke to the congregation, I gave a presentation about the project and how it would impact the local community. We received the necessary permission from the church and permits from the city.

Loomin drew out the plans for the renovation and conversion from doctors office to homeless shelter. Loomin also worked with a group of volunteers who were already running a small food pantry and used that platform as a starting point to build out additional programs and services for homeless individuals. We also connected with the other local service agencies and dept of housing to begin receiving communication and a much needed partnership for referrals. Grant writing was a large amount of work conducted by Loomin, getting FBC set up with HUD and the federal awards system, grants.gov and sam.gov to capture large multi year grants.
